College Textbooks & Clinical References College texts and clinical reference books to be published will focus on core curriculum topics taught at naturopathic colleges in North America. Based on consultations with curriculum directors and academic deans at these colleges, book topics will be identified and qualified authors solicited. These texts will also appeal to related colleges of medicine, from homeopathic colleges to traditional medical colleges with a natural medicine curriculum component. In addition, these books will serve as valuable references in clinical settings.
Three series of college texts and clinical references will be published: Naturopathic Principles and Practices (Principles and Practices of Naturopathic Clinical Nutrition, for example), Fundamentals of Naturopathic Medicine (Fundamentals of Naturopathic Endocrinology, for example), and Naturopathic Clinical Practices (Naturopathic Standards of Primary Care, for example). For a list of titles published in these series, see our catalog of books in print.
Consumer Trade & Corporate Wellness Editions Consumer trade book topics will be identified by the editorial board, with the focus on chronic health conditions, such as arthritis, where evidence-based research shows that naturopathic medicine is effective, and on general remedies, such as naturopathic nutrition, where popular interest is widespread. Consumer trade books will be re-purposed for sale to allied health supply and services corporations and customized to support corporate wellness and other clinical outreach or public health programs.
Two series will be published: Naturopathic Healing Series (Healing Arthritis, for example) and Naturopathic Good Health Guide Series (Naturopathic First Aid, for example). For a list of titles published in these series, see our catalog of books in print.
Scholarly Monographs
Doctors, professors, and scholars conducting evidence-based research in naturopathic medicine will be able to publish their results and discoveries in a series of scholarly monographs designed for the library reference and professional markets (Anxiety: Orthomolecular Diagnosis and Treatment, for example). These books will build on research studies published in refereed scholarly journals.
CCNM Press Inc. Selection and Peer Review Policy Books to be published by CCNM Press Inc. are selected based on scholarly merit, educational need, and market demand. All books published by CCNM Press Inc. will further the advancement of the profession of naturopathic medicine, teaching the principles of naturopathic medicine to health-care students and the principles of healthy living to consumers, enabling them to prevent illness and assisting them in the healing process.
Textbooks and scholarly reference books must comply with our 3-year publishing program in established series, such as our Principles and Practices of Naturopathic Medicine Series and our Fundamentals of Naturopathic Medicine Series. Patient care and consumer trade books also must comply with our publishing program in established series, such as our Naturopathic Healing Series and Naturopathic Good Health Guide Series. Exceptional or novel projects not complying with these programs will be considered from time to time. See our catalog of books in print for examples of books in these series.
Books published by CCNM Press Inc. are acquired by the Executive Director, in consultation with an editorial advisory group nominated by the board of directors. Prior to acquisition or during the editorial process, each project is subject to peer review. This is an objective process at the heart of good publishing, carried out by reputable health and medical book and journal publishers. Referees are matched to the project according to their expertise. We welcome suggestions for referees from the author, although these recommendations may or may not be used. Referees are asked to evaluate the project on its originality, methodology, and marketability. They are also asked if the science behind the information presented is sound and if the information presented is adequately referenced. They are not asked to present an opinion on the mechanics of the manuscript – spelling, punctuation, grammar, format – which are the subject of copyediting.
Referees are asked to recommend for or against publishing the project, with or without revisions, but the Executive Director is responsible for the final decision to accept or reject the project.
Referees remain anonymous, unless they prefer to be noted on the copyright page of the book. This citation may contribute to the professional development requirements for various professional societies and associations.
Referees receive copies of all CCNM Press Inc. publications and may be offered a nominal honorarium to be set by the board of directors of CCNM Press Inc. |
